HATTIEBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss Track and Field Head Coach Kevin Stephen announced the hiring of former standout Ashley Reyer as an assistant track and field coach for the Golden Eagle track program. This hiring is subject to approval by the Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning.
"I am pleased to announce the addition of Ashley to my staff," Stephen said. "Ashley is very hard working, organized and disciplined and will add a lot to our staff. In her time as an athlete here, she was one of the most decorated female athletes. Her love for Southern Miss and her ability to coach technical events in track and field made the decision an easy one."
Reyer joins the staff full-time after serving one season as a graduate assistant coach. Her duties including coaching the multi-events and hurdlers, while assisting in recruiting and day-to-day operations
Prior to joining the coaching staff, Reyer had a standout career for the Golden Eagles. She is the school record holder in the pentathlon (3,801 points) and heptathlon (5,392 points). She had a record-setting outdoor season competing in the heptathlon, capping off the season with a Conference USA title. Her point total was good enough for a NCAA provisional qualifying mark and high enough that she became the first female athlete to compete in the NCAA National Meet in the heptathlon, finishing 14th overall. She also finished second at the C-USA Meet in the pentathlon, recording a provisional qualifying mark as well.
As a senior, Reyer finished second in the pentathlon at the C-USA Indoor Meet with a school-record point total of 3,801 and second in the outdoor meet with 5,309 points.
The Petal, Miss., native received her bachelor's degree in coaching and sport administration in 2007 and her master's in sport administration in 2008.
