Twenty-Five Year Reunion Planned For 1980 Team
Homecoming is always a special occasion on the Southern Miss campus. But this season, when the Golden Eagles host new Conference
The 1980 football team, one of the top teams to ever play on the gridiron at Southern Miss, will hold its 25th reunion at homecoming this season.
That year, the 1980 squad accomplished many firsts, including becoming the first team to appear on a major television network (ABC at Tulane, Sept. 6, 1980), the first team to be ranked in the top-20 (20th, Oct. 21, 1980), and also became the first team to play in a bowl game since the school became the
The 1980 team, under Head Coach Bobby Collins, finished its season 9-3, marking the first time since the 1962 season that a Golden Eagle team won nine games.
The team will have a private reception on Fri., Oct. 14 in the M-Club meeting room, and will be recognized during the game. Additionally all former team members will participate in the Eagle Walk before the game.
