Seymour To Undergo Makeover HATTIESBURG, Miss.
"I was motivated by our student-athletes, many of whom I saw in the weight room and the classroom this summer," said Seymour. "I knew it was time for me to get in shape with the new lineup of Conference USA; I have to be able to compete on a whole new level."
Seymour will be working with personal trainers at Wesley Medical Center?s Institute for Wellness and Sports Medicine over the next month to get in shape and to build his cardiovascular system, which is really tested throughout the year at games and pep rallies.
"We have a regimented routine for Seymour to follow," said Wellness director Nadine Archuletta. "We know swimming is not an option, of course, but we will get him working out on the treadmill, in aerobic classes, spinning and lifting weights. Our staff of nutritionists will work closely with him on diet, and I think he will be much improved both physically and mentally for the first football game."
"Let?s face it," said Head Football Coach Jeff Bower. "He?d really let himself go over the last few years. Seymour represents our student athletes and we can?t have an out-of-shape Golden Eagle on the field."
"Coach Bower is right," said Seymour. "I haven?t spent enough time taking care of myself."
In addition to diet and exercise, Seymour will be having some cosmetic surgery. "I?m not too proud to say that I need some work done," said Seymour. "Let?s face it, my feathers are a little droopy and could use a lift."
Dr. Paul Talbot, a physician with the Plastic Surgery Center of Hattiesburg and President of the medical staff at Wesley Medical Center will perform several procedures on Seymour.
"Seymour and I have discussed his options and believe that much of his work can be done in the gym and through diet, but we will be performing rhinoplasty, a brow lift and a neck lift," said Talbot. "I believe he will be very pleased with the results and will feel more confident when he is in front of the crowds this season."
Asked what he thought about Seymour?s decision, Director of Athletics Richard Giannini had this to say, "There is always a risk during surgery, but the doctors and nurses at Wesley Medical Center will take good care of Seymour. We are supporting him and will be there with him throughout the process."
Seymour is planning on unveiling his new and improved look during the pre-game festivities on September 4. Kickoff for the season opening "Battle for the Bell" against Tulane is scheduled for 3 p.m.
