Men's Golf Finishes Fifth At Homewood Suites Invitational
MOBILE, Ala. ? The Southern Miss men's golf fired a final round 292 to pick up three places and finish fifth at the Homewood Suites Invitational, here at the Azalea City Golf Course on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles, who opened in eighth after shooting a combined 302-289--591 on the first day of play, shot the second-best round of the day, only behind eventual team winner Mississippi State, who shot a 289 to finish at 862 for the tournament. Host South Alabama, the first-day leader, finished second overall, while Austin Peay and Louisiana Tech finished in a tie for third.
Justin Elliott had his best round of the tournament on the final day, shooting a 3-under 69 to finish the event 5-under par with a combined score of 211 and stand in third place overall, narrowly missing the final playoff. Kyle Ramey followed with a total score of 218 after his 78 in the third round, tying for 12th overall. Danny Dennis (230) and Michael Soroka (231) finished in ties for 56th and 60th, respectively, while Grant Balcke totaled a 233 for the tournament and was tied for 63rd. Individual competitor Tim McCabe tied for 68th overall with his total of 237.
