Golden Eagle Tennis Player Receives All-Conference Honors

HATTIESBURG, Miss. ?  Southern Miss? senior David Canudas was named to the Conference USA All-Conference first team, announced today by the league office.  The awards were selected in a vote by the league?s 12 head coaches.

TCU?s Fabrizio Sestini and Tulane?s Head Coach Robert Klein received the top C-USA tennis honors, being named Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively.  Roy Sichel of Charlotte was named Freshman of the Year.

Canudas, a native of Barcelona, Spain, finished the season with a record of 18-9, including a 13-5 record in spring at No. 1 singles.  He posted wins against Roy Sichel (Charlotte) 7-5, 3-6, 6-3; No. 84 Alex Bucewicz (Memphis) 6-3, 6-1; No. 99 Lurgi D?Agord (Alabama) 3-6, 6-1, 7-5; and split sets with Uli Kiendl (USF) 6-7, 7-6 before the match was suspended.  His only loss in conference was to No. 27 Fabrizio Sestini (TCU) indoors.  He recorded an 11-5 record at No. 3 doubles with Juan Garzon.   He was team Captain and an Honor Roll Student.  He started the season at preseason No. 45 ITA national ranking and No. 48 February ranking.
