Basketball Takes On Nationally Ranked Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Southern Miss Golden Eagles wrap up their two-game road swing in the state of North Carolina, facing nationally ranked Charlotte on Saturday.
Southern Miss (10-16, 1-13) enters the game after dropping a 77-66 decision at East Carolina on Wednesday, while the 49ers (20-4, 11-2), ranked 21st in both major polls, picked up an 80-77 win over Memphis.
Tip-off for the game is set for 2 p.m., CT. The contest will be broadcast over the Southern Miss/ISP Sports Network. "The Voice of the Golden Eagles" John Cox and Lance Pittman will call the action. Air time begins at 1:30 p.m., CT, with the Golden Eagle Courtside Show.
Rashaad Carruth continues to lead Southern Miss in scoring with 13.2 points per game, and Michael Ford follows with 10.5 points a night, following his 22 points against East Carolina. Mildon Ambres leads the team with 4.9 rebounds a game, while Ford has a team-high 76 assists.
Curtis Withers leads the team with 17.0 points and also has 8.2 rebounds, while Eddie Basden is averaging 15.9 points and a team-best 8.5 rebounds a night. Brendan Plavich is scoring 13.6 points a game. Mitchell Baldwin has a team-high 93 assists, while Basden has 88 assists on the season.
The game marks the 30th overall meeting between the two schools with Charlotte owning a 25-4 advantage, including 11-straight wins. The 49ers won 78-72, last season, in Hattiesburg.
Following the game, Southern Miss returns home for the regular season finale against TCU on March 5.
