Basketball Picks Up Fifth Signee, Inks Visockis
Head Coach Larry Eustachy |
HATTIESBURG, Miss.
? Southern Miss Head Basketball Coach Larry Eustachy has announced the signing of Donatas Visockis of The Cardinal Gibbons School in Baltimore, Md., to a national letter of intent for the 2005-06 academic year. This marks the fifth signee of the spring signing period.
"Donatas is a true big guy who has a tremendous upside," Eustachy said. "He can rebound, block shots and can develop an inside game that will help us in the post. He has a great work ethic which, I think, is his best attribute, and he will give us added toughness and competitiveness."
The 6-foot-10, 215-pound center from Siauliai, Lithuania, played for Coach Bob Flynn at Cardinal Gibbons, helping the team to a 13-17 record as a senior, while playing in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association. During the season, he averaged 11 points and seven rebounds. As a junior at Oak Hill (Va.) Academy, Visockis was named to the Top 10 Junior list by VirginiaPreps.com.
Visockis
joins four players who signed with Southern Miss in the spring period, a group that includes Courtney Beasley of Bridgton (Maine) Academy, Travis Hall of Western Nebraska Community College, Kyle LaMonte of Marshalltown (Iowa) Community College and David Cornwell of Los Angeles City College. Craig Craft, a 6-foot-3 guard from Raleigh (Miss.) High School, was the lone signee during the early signing period in November.
