Basketball Begins Two-Game Road Swing At East Carolina
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss Golden Eagles begin a two-game road swing in the state of North Carolina, traveling to Greenville, N.C., to take on East Carolina on Wednesday.
Southern Miss (10-15, 1-12) enters the game after falling 85-73 at home against Memphis, while the Pirates (8-17, 3-10) also fell on Saturday, losing on the road at USF 60-50.
Tip-off for the game is set for 6 p.m., CT. The contest will be broadcast over the Southern Miss/ISP Sports Network. "The Voice of the Golden Eagles" John Cox and Lance Pittman will call the action. Air time begins at 5:30 p.m., CT, with the Golden Eagle Courtside Show.
Rashaad Carruth, who is coming off a career-best 25 points against Memphis, leads Southern Miss in scoring with 13.4 points per game, and Michael Ford follows with 10.1 points a night. Mildon Ambres leads the team with 5.0 rebounds a game, while Ford has a team-high 71 assists.
East Carolina, under the direction of Bill Herrion, enter the game with an overall mark of 8-17 and a 3-10 record in Conference USA play. Mike Cook leads the team with 14.6 points per game, while Moussa Badiane is scoring 11.9 points an outing. Corey Rouse also is averaging in double figures with 10.1 points per game. Japhet McNeil has a team-best 101 assists, while Rouse has a team-high 10.2 rebounds per game.
The game marks the sixth overall in the all-time series between the two schools, while East Carolina leads the series, 5-0. In the last meeting, the Pirates won 63-50 in Hattiesburg.
Following today's game, Southern Miss stays on the road and travels to Charlotte on Saturday, before coming home for the regular season finale against TCU on March 5.
