Golden Eagles in the C-USA Tournament: The Golden Eagles have posted a 56-38 record (.596) in this tournament and have played in more C-USA tourney games than any other school, while the win total also ranks first. The Golden Eagles have won their opening game in tournament play in 11 of the last 15 events. Southern Miss is the only school to win at least one game in all 24 tournaments played. They are 16-8 all-time in tournament openers and 5-4 in championship games.
As the No. 3 Seed: This will be the ninth time Southern Miss has come into this event as the No. 3 seed - capturing the tournament in 2016 - and are 20-16 all-time as that seed. The Golden Eagles defeated Rice at Pete Taylor Park 3-2 in that 2016 championship title game, winning on the potential tying run getting thrown out at the plate for the last out of the game. The squad also reached the championship game during the 2004 event at Cougar Field in Houston, dropping the final to TCU, 13-7.
Against Their Opponents in the Tournament Field: Southern Miss is 9-6 in 2021 against its three potential opponents in its tournament bracket. The squad took 3-of-4 games from WKU in Hattiesburg in the two schools first meeting since 2018. They also swept UTSA in three games at San Antonio and won three of eight games versus Louisiana Tech, in which five games were decided by one run (2-3 in those games). Moving Up in the Rankings: The Golden Eagles remain in at least one national ranking for the fifth-straight week, earning a No. 19 spot by D1Baseball.com, as well as at No. 16 by USA Today and No. 23 in the Baseball America poll. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll came out after these notes were produced, but the Golden Eagles were No. 21 last week in the NCBWA. Southern Miss appeared in all the major polls at least once this season.
Twinbill Tally: Southern Miss played 10 doubleheaders in 2021, winning five and splitting five. That accounted for a 15-5 record on twinbill days.

Back to the NCAAs in 2019: Southern Miss appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth-straight year and the 16th time overall, playing in the Baton Rouge Regional to complete its 2019 season. The Golden Eagles made their first-ever appearance in the postseason in 1990, with a trip to Baton Rouge, and at one point, reached regional play nine-straight seasons, from 2003-11.
Golden Eagles Take C-USA Title: Southern Miss captured the last Conference USA tournament title in 2019 and have won three of the last four events - making the championship game in all four seasons. The Golden Eagles also captured the 2018 C-USA regular season and tournament titles, marking the second time Southern Miss had won both C-USA championships in the same season with the other time coming in 2003. Four of the school’s five C-USA regular season titles have come under current head coach Scott Berry, while he has also led Southern Miss to four of their five tournament titles.
