Fletcher and Prudilova Named To USTFCCCA Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team

HATTIEBURG, Miss. - A record 468 Division I women's track and field student-athletes were honored for achievements in athletics and academics, announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Southern Miss' Cheris Fletcher and Hana Prudilova were among those honored for their academic and athletic performances in 2008.

Fletcher, an industrial engineering technology major, turned in an outstanding junior campaign with a school record time of 54.04 in the 400 meters, breaking the nine-year old record. She finished fifth in the 400 meters at the Conference USA Indoor Championship, followed by a fourth-place finish in the 400 meters at the Conference USA Outdoor Championship. Fletcher received the C-USA academic medal for maintaining a 3.84 GPA.

Prudilova earned All-Region honors in the javelin after finishing second at the Mideast Regional Meet with a school record performance of 164'3", breaking a 13-year old record. She advanced to the NCAA National Outdoor Championship after finishing second in the regional meet. Prudilova finished second at the C-USA Meet. She placed first in four meets during the season. Prudilova graduated with a 3.89 GPA, earning a bachelor's degree in economics and finance.
